yeah, I have been helping out with the rice every year… first we separate the good seed from the bad (from last years harvest…) then a week or two later the kids plant the rice in flats at the school and then about 6 weeks later they plant the seedlings in the fields… next fall we will be , first of all, clearing the field of “mamushi” (poisonous snakes) and then the kids cut and bundle the rice… then we pound mochi and eat it all… they get quite a bountiful harvest!!!
i just wish that the farmer who helps us all was more into organic farming……there are chemicals so that the plants don’t get “sick”…..

What a fantastic experience. Hard work I’m sure, but it looks like fun!
