fruit bearing tree, eclipse and a quilt!!

the moon eats the sun

taking the light from the sky

darkness in the rain

—a haiku, by Jan.

fruit bearing UME/plum tree near the front door.

i had no idea there was even fruit on this tree

i see it every day, several times a day and one day, one had fallen down, then i looked up and saw the rest

…they are “ume” sometimes translated as plum, or apricot…

they are not for eating right off the tree, but need to be prepared first..

either pickled or put into shotchu to make a kind of “ume” wine…

now on this cloudy rainy day…a total eclipse is happening RIGHT NOW!!!

if you hang a quilt on a fruit bearing plum tree…

in the light of an eclipse….

it’s a very, very powerful blessing.

how about some begonias?

aren’t they pretty??

latest quilt top is finished.

you know, if you just keep sewing things together,

pretty soon it’s  as big as a bed!!!!

big enough to cover a queen!!!!

raided the purple stash to make this one….

a brief detour from the usual old blue stuff…

beautiful flowers in the field next door.

both boys upstairs get this view from their windows.

some more wild life in the garden.

how does your garden grow..

…warm weather

and lots of rain…

so cool

new leaves in the center ready to break out…

very tropical!!!

look at the little bells hanging down

so cute!!

pretty flowers.

it’s all so pretty!!

can’t help but love spring…

april showers bring may flowers…

alrighty then.

first up, some clematis. for my dad. he has one and it is flourishing

so i hope that mine will too….

clematis on the right.
two cucumbers on the left.

who wants to guess what they are going to climb……

ok then. i have been doing a bit of stitching lately.

slow and easy.

finished up a quilt…..

it kinda looks like the last two quilts i finished….

I think i will leave the pole there hanging between two trees…

you know, handy for hanging things on…like laundry!!!!

today is my good friend Deb’s b-day….

so i would like to take this opportunity to say

  HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEB!!!!

and now it’s time for some cherry blossoms!!!!!

ocean view

after Judo one day, Kayla and some friends walked up to a nearby park for a picnic.they had a nice lunch and took some purty photos…..

it’s nearly impossible to find a photo of any group in Japan without at least one peace sign.

gratuitous close up shot. because macro is part of the package now and you don’t have to buy a separate lens.

the cherry blossoms this year, as usual are be-doggone-yutiful. blowing in the wind and bringing cheer to our days.

come on sunshine!!!

continuing garden series...

everything looks so pretty in the garden.even high tech solar panels!!!.

40 panels have been installed and we are hooked up with the local power company to sell all excess electricity

tennis anyone?

my elbow hurts.

i think i have tennis elbow.

from quilting.

don’t laugh.

so yesterday, all day, i didn’t pick up a needle. i wanted to. i really really wanted to. but i didn’t. i took a day off. woke up this morning and my elbow still hurts.  i really need a quilting fix.  i really need to get some needle action.  sigh.

i had to run some errands yesterday and bumped into a little tent selling stuff.

good stuff.

old japanese stuff.

so i got this….

cool, isn't it!!

pretty sure it’s the god “Hotei”  , god of happiness…it looks great in my garden… just not sure where it looks best…

does it look good here????

*************

or do you like it better over here…

i think it looks good on the quilt… but i need to bring the quilt in because i have more stitching to do.

no pain, no gain.

i can rest this elbow when it gets too hot and humid to sew….

spring has sprung!!!

GREETINGS ALL ON THIS BEAUTIFUL SUNNY WARM DAY!

what a huge difference a little warmth and sunshine can make!!

i am surrounded by beauty.

ume

 just outside my front door

the UME/PLUM tree is starting to bloom.

good luck masks...

playing around with driftwood and clay.

3 masks. one for each kid.

some shiny treasures from my box.

a talisman for the entry way.

not to have the feeling that I might have done better.”

(from “Each day a new beginning… .Daily meditations for Women”)

snow

more snow days this year than last year.

less actual snow on the ground.

isn’t it pretty!!!

snow in the garden.

took a bunch of kimonos out of a bag….. massive bouts of sneezing and drippy nose…. could it be the wool or the moldy musty memories of old old fabric….?? in a frenzy of activity, i pulled off sleeves and ripped out seams, washed , ironed and sewed…. just a few stitches turned the arms into fabulous chair covers…

new chair covers...

next project (besides about 5 quilts, 5 knitting projects and a deck support to repair)

is to remove the (bottom) seats and figure out how to cover them…

or at least make some cushions to go on top of the grotty seats.

I am thinking of using some blue denim.

anyone with furniture refinishing suggestions , please send comments!!

Kai is 11 now!!! Happy birthday to my youngest!!!
