aloha…….

silky aloha

Have I mentioned that I collect Aloha shirts?? In fact, I collect shirts in general, especially made in the U.S.A.  aloha shirts.  Any size. Any color. I just gotta have ’em.  I got this silky number last week.  It’s kind of cheesy, and it’s made in China, but it’s perfect.  It has 5 fabulous wooden buttons and it fits.  I might keep it as is, or cut it up…. (so far I haven’t cut up any of my shirts…).  I have a friend in need of some Aloha love, so I gathered up some shirts which I am hesitant to part with, but , I trust that she will respect  and love them properly , I will send them to her with my blessing…..so today, I say good bye to them…..

good bye old friends.
go in peace.
Recently I mentioned that I would be making some changes on my new flea market Levi’s Jacket. I had a few free mornings and got to work.  I am living out a dream I have had since I was a kid in the 70″s to have a demin shirt with embroidery all over it.  I haven’t really thought of myself as an embroiderer so much, I am a quilter.  I realized that the embellishing that I have been adding to my quilts is really embroidery, so when I saw this jacket, I realized that I had to have it and that I would “illustrate” it.
I am going to call it “The tatoo jacket”

–He took his shirt off and wadded it in his hands. He was covered with Illustrations from the blue tatooed ring about his neck to his belt line.

“It keeps right on going,” he said, guessing my thought. “All of me is Illustrated. Look.” He opened his hand . On his palm was a rose, freshly cut, with drops of crystal water among the soft pink petals.  I put my hand out to touch it, but it was only an Illustration……..

Let’s give this a try

Hi!  I will give this a try.  Beautiful day here in Richmond.  I am busy studying companies that are interested in following up on my resume.  That and networking.  I will keep this short as not sure of ettiquette, but am interested in how this blogging thing works!  Your crafts are beautiful, by the way.

in memory

hey mom…..do you remember the trips in to Bellingham to see Laurette Langille?  She sang the blues.  I used to go to bars to hear her play.  I would try to find people to go with, finding places where she was playing, and going to see her.  I talked to her once in the bathroom.  I told her that she sang the hell out of Joplin and that she must be rolling over in her grave with happiness.  I just now found her obituary in the Bellingham Herald………she died Sept. 8 at the age of 51.  She was only 6 years older than me.  It doesn’t say how she died…. I have one compilation c.d. with one song on it that she sings.  I will listen to it today in her memory.

THE RICE HAS BEEN HARVESTED….

one bundle of rice ready to dry

one bundle of rice ready to dry

Oct. 15 was a beautiful blue sky day and the rice was ready to cut.  We volunteer helpers started out the day early combing the field for MAMUSHI (poisonous snakes that hang out around these parts) we didn’t find any but one turned up later.  We cut one of 4 fields before the kids arrived and then the kids worked the remainding 3 fields.

in the back ground, the four little fields that the school uses.  In the foreground, a field of rice that has already been cut and hung up to dry. This area is about a  20 minute from the school. It’s really beautiful.

the old shit kickers.

In a salute to my texan roots, I pulled the old boots out, dusted them off and WORE THEM AROUND THE HOUSE.  totally not acceptable to be wearing boots around the house. unless you are whistling some Johnny Cash….or maybe some George Thoroughgood….  “I”m bad to the bone”….

In other news, I spoke to my brother on the phone.  He is home and well…… in case anyone was wondering.

and finally, an update on fish progress…. I have 4 sets nearly completed, and several more in the works.

best fishes.

best fishes.

the convoluted post.

ok. I will try to keep this simple.

there is this Canadian chick I know (from the internet) and she grew up in Japan… and she is married to a man from France… and they are living in Doha….(are you with me so far?) and she is making a visit to Japan to check out her old stomping grounds and though I doubt that I will have the honor of meeting her, I will be sending her some fish…. you know THOSE FISH….. they are all over the world… in fact, my new goal is to have fish on every continent…. I’ve got most of them covered… (anyone know anybody in Antarctica???)  so I dug in to my big old pop corn tin to check out the FISH IN PROGRESS…

FISH IN PROGRESS.

FISH IN PROGRESS.

I see that I have a few sewn, a few cut out, and not really great colors…. so, I will get some going, because you know, she’s going to be visiting people here and there around Japan and they know me, and they know about the fish, and I am not going to be able to get away with sending just one set of fish…. so…. I will be in “create fish mode” for a few days. Damn fish.

ok. now. i promised you convolution.  *ya say ya want a convolution*  so lets talk about politicscurrenteventsthepriceof oiltheeconomy.

the u.s. dollar is losing power to the yen. so technically, my yen can buy more american goods?

the price of oil is DROPPING….. so, will my utilities drop as well?

the dow is plunging every day…. how low can it go and what does that mean for me?

can obamabidenmccainpalin actually turn this mess around?

should the media be focusing on any other candidates?

finally. a serious question for all my loyal readers (HI MOM!!!!!)………in a salute to Katie Couric….

WHAT MAGAZINES DO YOU READ??????

I subscribe to… QUILTING ARTS, INTERWEAVE KNITS, PIECE WORK MAGAZINE, QUILTER’S NEWSLETTER,  QUILTER’S HOME, BETTER HOMES and GARDENS, and RANGER RICK….

I love Martha Stewart and read her magazine when one comes my way… I have subscribed to Vegetarian Times in the past  and I have about a decade of National Geographic on my shelves.

I do believe that i have a good deal of experience in foreign relations …. and that is why I have dedicated myself to a lifetime of crafting.

okey dokey.  that should do it for the convoluted post. I would like to thank you all for your support.

oh, and one more thing….NAGASAKI has a new MALL!!!! with a 9 screen movie theater… a (nother) STARBUCKS, a new INDIAN RESTAURANT…. and   ………………………………..

A FERRIS WHEEL!!!!
