Hard times require furious dancing…

Happy Anniversary to Jolene and Denny.

still scrappin’

still loving the nine patch

i still can’t help but sew squares together.  the whole process, from tracing the squares, cutting them out, sewing them together….to watching the cloth grow….. it’s meditative for me, relaxing, comforting… I love it.

spicing it up a bit…
adding some stitches and scraps to jeans….

sometimes, when i don’t feel like sewing squares together, i sew  scraps on to old jean parts…. lines and lines of stitches and some little bits of color from my overflowing stash baskets….

old kimono bits…

a lot of the japanese prints go really well with faded denim…

sewing scraps to scraps, backed with scraps for support...

i almost don’t need any money to support this passion….

my stash runneth over…

lucky me!!!!

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad…

Love Jan.

hemp/linen…..asa…

awesome hemp/linen shirt

look what else i found in the recycle pile….

and it fits so it must be MAN SIZED…

no tags inside, so it must be  home made or custom made

rough linen/hemp cloth, kind-a scratchy…

I wonder if it needs a little "work" done on it...

I have a question for my textile arty friends with Japan/Japanese experience..regarding the cloth ASA… which can be either hemp or linen/flax…. and what is the difference and how can i tell the difference….

Sept. 7 update…

Typhoon number 9 blowing through has cooled things down just a bit, temporarily…..

I have had some lucky “windfalls” lately….. a stack of (wool) kimono from the neighbor lady’s mother….

short jackets and long kimono...

This one is my favorite, it’s a short jacket and not big enough for me to wear… but i love the color and the pattern…

orange kimono jacket...

I also found some excellent stuff on recycle day, a kimono set for a ceremony for one year olds…

the back...

close up detail of the back....

the baby kimono jacket...

well, i have all these kimonos sitting around now…. what to do with them…. i am not yet going to cut them up… if anyone is interested in some of these kimonos,  i guess we could work out a deal!! Let me know if you want some of them OR if you have any ideas on what i can create from them!!!  They are beautful just to look at!!!!

Here’s a picture ( of a picture) of my niece, about 10 years ago in an old family kimono…

Kayla's cousin, she is about 12 now....
